A good deal of the conversation on self-mastery and self-evolution revolves around being positive. You hear and read a lot of “stay positive” and “be positive” and “don’t let someone else’s negativity bring you down”. This narrative around positivity presupposes that negativity is the opposition. It paints a portrait of upward movement and downward movement where the two don’t go hand in hand and are instead presented as being opposites or either-or dualities. The “positive” capacity of your nature is emphasized while the “negative” capacity of your nature is disowned, discarded, and painted in an unfavorable light.
There is useful merit in the effort to transcend limiting patterns and elevating your being and your states to more constructive, consciously regulated levels. What’s not useful is the subtext or undercurrent message that says negativity is undesirable, that negativity is bad, that negative states are wrong.
Dualistic frameworks based in a 3D context require that in order to be one thing, you have to cease being its opposite. In order for one thing to be good, another thing has to be bad. Dig a little deeper into this though and you will expose the limitations such a framework imposes on free flowing energy and information. Emotions are emotions, they are neither good nor bad. States of being are states of being, they are neither good or bad. Energy is energy, regardless of the charge it carries, it isn’t classifiable as good or bad.
Is there such a thing as positive and negative? Are these labels pointing to two separate phenomena? What is the line of demarcation between the two? Take a close look at the structure and function of positive thinking and positive states alongside negative thinking and negative states. By design, all states you can generate and sustain in yourself have a function and purpose. That you can think positively and negatively, that you can be open or closed, that you can be accepting or self-protective all have their functions. What becomes dysfunctional is the excess and unbalanced use of these capacities within your being. Where people run into a problem is in the unregulated embodiment of either state.
When looking at the energy states you inhabit beyond dualistic labels, the conversation around what self-mastery, self-evolution, self-transcendence, and spiritual awakening are about changes. Instead of “I have to be more positive” or “I have to practice positive thinking”, the focus is about being integrated and awake at all levels. Here your work is to integrate or work to integrate all aspects of your being and bring them into conscious regulation. The effort here becomes about being real. Be real. Be integrated. Without glossing over what’s arising for you, without creating and imposing “positive” overlays on what you’re really thinking and feeling, without suppressing whatever you’re authentically experiencing, without creating contrived positivity, just be real in this moment.
If being real in a given moment is the clockwise spin of your energy centers flooding your system with life force, embrace it and bring it into your conscious awareness. If being real in a given moment is the counter-clockwise spin of repelling or expelling energy, embrace it and bring that into your conscious awareness. Exercise conscious self-regulation. Welcome what arises for you and within you. Be real with yourself physically, emotionally, psychologically, energetically. Use your ability to move into any state, whether repelling or magnetizing in its charge, consciously and with purpose. There are patterns in the field you want to magnetize and patterns in the field you want to repel. You in your embodied form are by design both positive and negative, much like a battery, with purposeful precision.
Within an integrated holistic framework, the focus isn’t on being in the either/or of any dualistic relationship, but rather being whole. Wholeness is about integration. Light and shadow are integrated. Positive and negative are integrated. Upward flow and downward flow are integrated. Masculine and feminine are integrated. Wholeness is about regulation. You regulate energy a certain way to achieve magnetic states and you de-regulate energy another way to achieve demagnetizing or repelling states. You bring down energy to anchor and ground it. You move up energy to cycle and transform it. In all of the free flowing energy and information you interact with, you regulate what’s incoming and what’s outgoing from and within your integrated awareness.
The shift in perspective here then is this: be real. Be integrated. Be in your wholeness. Be positive and negative consciously and with purpose.
