One of the things that adds to the quality of your experiences and your level of influence in your environment is your ability to remain vision oriented regardless of what is or isn’t showing up. To be vision oriented is to live the moment knowing that what you have envisioned and the reality you’ve become internally aligned to will take shape.
In any given moment you are either reacting to circumstances from the lens of the past or you are responding to circumstances from a place of knowing the reality and inevitability of your vision materializing. You are either writing and rewriting the same story over and over again, or you are opening yourself up to a new story, one you have never seen or lived before. One keeps your brain and so your reality the same, the other changes your brain and your reality altogether.
These two distinct perspectives you can operate out of also give you completely different levels of influence. The first keeps you in a powerless state of being and limits your creativity. You have little to no influence when you are operating from memories of the past – there is no energy there that’s moving anything forward. Living from memory, living in reaction to memory keeps you somewhat stationary in an environment and cosmos that is in constant motion. Your motion in an evolutionary cycle becomes cycling in one spot, in the familiar, in the known expectations of your memorized past. You keep creating more and more of the same.
If you are using the lens of the past as your reference for what this moment and the next can become, then you are trapped in a psychological and energetic loop of living and reliving the same thoughts, emotions and experiences. This is how people get stuck and resist the natural impulse to grow and evolve. This is where people maintain themselves in a state of tension even though the moment at hand is open and offering them an opportunity to choose something different. This is where people experience different levels of suffering where their eyes stay blind to the freedom of the present moment as they remain under the trance of their past experiences.
People don’t typically knowingly choose to get stuck, it is rather their habits of perception that keep them projecting their memories into the future and expecting more of the same to fill their next moments. You’ve heard the saying before that “the best way to predict the future is to create it”. There is a psychological basis to this assertion. If you keep imaging the same outcome, if you keep thinking the same thoughts, feeling the same feelings, making the same pictures in your head as you keep calling up the same memories in your mind’s eye, then you are creating a future wherein you relieve that same expected outcome. The past does not equal the future. The present moment is always a creative point of power wherein you are given access to a limitless reservoir of energy that you can flow into a different experience, a different flow of information, a new outcome. If you’ve trapped yourself in the loop of your memories however, if you’re continuously letting yourself impose your memories of the past onto the blank canvas that is the present, then you’re only allowing yourself to operate within the boundaries of what’s familiar to you.
You have to catch yourself doing this and begin to breakdown and break apart that habit of operating from your memories. You can do that by asking yourself “am I present to the possibilities of this moment and the next or am I living in and from memory right now?” Check to see what’s informing your reactions – 99% of the time you’ll find that it’s been your negatively biased memory running the show. When you know you've been operating from memory, you then give yourself the power to choose to shift into living from and in your vision of the desired future. You give yourself the opportunity to make and see new images in your minds eye, feel new feelings in your body, and think new thoughts of positive expectation. In that shift you gain immense amounts of power, energy and influence.
The first and sometimes only step needed in waking up from the trance of your memories is awareness. When you awaken from the memory cloud that obscures your view of what’s truly here right now, you’ll sometimes become startled over just how much your memories hijack your awareness to the degree that you lose your sense of feeling connected to the boundless pulsing living energy that’s always here right now. Make it a point to check-in with yourself daily and pay attention to those around you. Create that reference for yourself on what it feels and looks like both in yourself and others when you’re living from memory and in memory versus when you are truly present to the pulsing potential of the present moment. You’re only ever really in this pulsing living present. Grow your awareness of that and you’ll find your reality and influence taking on new levels of awe and wonder.
