How do you appraise yourself in your life? What is your sense of value and worth right now in all aspects of your experience – in your relationships, in your career, in your creativity? What is that sense based on? Are you valuable and worthy just as you are? Do you matter just as you are? Or do you need to be something else, achieve more, generate more, do more, be "better than" to feel like you have value and worth in life, in the world?
One of the more critical explorations of your psychological evolution is your relationship to value and worth.
All the qualities of self in your embodied experience are sourced from an internal sense of being, generated internally independent of the world and people about you, or they are based on some external factor where you generate the sense or state as a response to some external factor. Is your value and worth innate? Are you valuable and worthy simply because you exist?
Value and worth are key constructs that point to how you relate to your own existence – they are what help define your sense of lovability, belonging-ness, appropriateness, right-ness, OK-ness, they validate your right to exist just as you are in the world and in any environment you find yourself in. They are also key constructs that influence and determine your ability to receive the gifts, the insights, the higher energies that are continually flowing your way. When you recognize your value and worth to be inherent to be an innate part of your being, when you recognize that all parts of you are and have always been acceptable (good, OK, beautiful, sacred), you automatically embrace your right to exist, your right to be, your right to speak, your right to respect, your right to love, your right to express, your right to emote, your right to think and generate ideas, your right to be who you are just as you are.
Your continual declaration, your continual broadcast to your environment, world, and universe when you recognize your inherent worth and value is: “I came into existence, I came into creation, I came into the world with all the value and worth I needed to have already within me. The only thing I need to know to feel valuable and worthy is that I exist, I’m here. I exist, therefore I have all the value and worth I need to have in the world, in creation.”
Basing your sense of value and worth on aspects of the external world on the other hand is a sure-fire way to create an unstable and unreliable sense of esteem and a way to pinch off the flow of your good, the flow of your creative life force as it moves both toward you and out from you. Culture and childhood often teach you that your ability to matter in the world rests on your achievements, other people, your belongings, your intellect, your attractiveness and a plethora of other factors that put the value bestowal as needing to come from something external to you.
If you do enough, if you behave the right way, if you withhold certain aspects of yourself, if you hide some parts, if you silence yourself more, if you dim down your light, then you’ll be valuable and worthy. Parents, schooling, and culture unwittingly (or wittingly) teach you that some aspects of you are wrong, unacceptable, not enough, not right, not OK through inconsistent, contradictory, and at times cruel means. Through this kind of conditioning, your respectability, your preciousness, your appropriateness, just as you are, become unreachable constructs, feelings, and experiences. What sinks into your energy field, into your nervous system, into your neurology, into the cells of your being is messaging that denies or negates your innate and eternal preciousness.
If this was your experience, if the messaging you received from your environment was and has been of this nature and that was what you integrated, then it’s time to heal and recover. It’s time to raise yourself back up and educate those parts of you that were given this message and that absorbed this message how inaccurate and downright mistaken such messages were. Where you want to resonate, how you want to hardwire your neurology, how you want to program your energy fields is along the lines of “I came into existence, I came into creation, I came into the world with all the value and worth I needed to have already within me. The only thing I need to know to feel valuable and worthy is that I exist, I’m here. I exist, therefore I have all the value and worth I need to have in the world, in creation.”
Focus on this, feel into this, recognize again and again that you matter just as you are, that you are immensely valuable and worthy simply because you exist and not for any other reason. Let this notion and feeling sink in and undo the distortions of those mistaken messages. Practice and rehearse this perspective until all you know is this, until those neurons recording this have fired and wired together enough times that they are solid neural clusters in your brain, until this becomes your core truth and your way of seeing – you matter just as you are, and you came into existence with all the value and worth you ever needed to have.
